Workplace Absenteeism – Genuine or Fake?
Workplace Absenteeism within Derby, Nottingham, Leicester & Sheffield – Genuine or Fake?
Do you have an absenteeism culture within your workplace or business or are you concerned that an individual is ‘swinging the lead?’
Workplace Absenteeism cost the UK economy £18 billion in 2017. Estimating a figure on what proportion of this was contributable by false sickness claims is impossible.
An estimated 137.3 million working days were lost due to sickness or injury in the UK in 2017. This equates to 4.3 days per worker per year.
How Can Titan Help With Your Workplace Absenteeism Problems
Titan Investigations have worked on many workplace absenteeism claims which were believed to be either false or as a result of a genuine injury at work, however the effects were believed to be exaggerated and drawn out to claim further time off.
We have evidenced employees landscaping gardens whilst on sick leave with a serious back injury, bed ridden employees on holiday riding jet skis, working elsewhere, setting up businesses, moving to a new house and going about their normal daily life.
All of our operatives have received formal surveillance training and have years of operational experience in both the public and private sector. We will provide you, the client, with a comprehensive report containing still images edited from the surveillance footage taken during the observations. This report can then be utilised for tribunals and/ or civil court proceedings.
It’s not always serious injuries which are cause for absenteeism. Minor illnesses, such as coughs and colds are the most common reason for sickness absence in 2017, responsible for 34 million days lost (24.8%) of the total days lost. This was closely followed by musculoskeletal problems, including back pain, neck and upper limb problems totalling 30.8 million days (22.4%). After ‘other’ conditions, mental health issues, including stress, depression, anxiety and serious conditions were the next most common reason for sickness absence, totalling 15.8 million days lost (11.5%).
In 2017, the groups who experienced the highest rates of sickness absence were;
- Women
- Public sector workers
- Who smoke
- With long-term health conditions
- Work in large organisations
