Employee Investigations

We have seen companies who have a culture of absenteeism eating through their company like a cancer. One employee is observed to be absent and is known to be ‘swinging the lead’ by others and there is no action taken. So those employees who observe this then think, “Why should I work so hard when they’re off sick fraudulently?” So, they then go off sick. Others will then see this and think the same. Before you know it, you have a massive absenteeism culture eroding away at your business’ productivity.

Titan is often brought in at this point to make an example of an individual to send the message out to the workforce that this will not be tolerated. We would utilise two surveillance operatives to covertly watch, monitor and record an employee’s movements whilst off work, supposedly sick. Previously we have evidenced employees.

Background Checks

These can be immensely useful when employing new staff.

• Confirm that they are who they are.
• Confirm their address.
• Confirm they have no criminal history.
• Confirm they are not connected to former disciplined employees.

This was a lesson learnt by a printing company who printed all the major supermarket food labels which contained allergy information. An employee had been sacked for gross misconduct and then arranged for his friend to gain employment at the business on a night shift. He sabotaged the printing machines and allergy information which almost cost the business the loss of a major contract due to the potential consequences if it hadn’t been picked up. This company now profiles all new potential employees through Titan as a result to ensure that this does not happen again.

GPS Vehicle Tracking

GPS vehicle tracking devices can be deployed on both personal and company vehicles in the right circumstances. This was utilised on a company director who suddenly changed his expenses from train fare expenses to mileage. A tracking device was deployed and showed that he was either at home, the gym or the golf course. Certainly not travelling all over England as part of his job.

Another was a sales manager of a large international company who was working from his wife’s ladies wear shop and was later evidenced serving customers from behind the counter rather than working for his company.

Another example is a lorry driver returning home every day to syphon off fuel from his work company vehicle.

Lie Detector Testing or Truth Validation

A company may experience an internal theft and have a number of suspects. EyeDetect truth validation testing takes 30 minutes per test and will provide an outcome of either credible or deceptive to the answers given. The results are instant, and the equipment is fully portable.

Graphology or Handwriting Analysis

Graphologists are able to confirm if a suspect is the author of handwriting or a signature of the following.

• Hate mail.
• Aggravated graffiti.
• Health and Safety forms or official documents.

We will require an electronic copy or image of the document in question and then a sample of the suspect or suspects handwriting or signature. The analysis then takes approximately seven days before a formal report will be produced outlining the Graphologist’s findings backed up by evidence.

Physical Penetration Testing

This is where we test the current security processes in place by trying to penetrate your business. We initially start by observing the location to gain information such as mode of dress, type of identification worn, security patrols etc. We will then decide on two types of attack: one is usually an overt attempt which relies on human nature and a second which is covert. We will film the penetration to prove where we have been able to access and then prepare a report outlining our findings and recommendations.

Technical Surveillance Counter Measures (TSCM) or Bug Sweep

This is usually conducted by businesses that operate in sensitive areas such as banking, aerospace and government; however it can apply to any company. We suggest that the areas swept are areas where key decisions are made, such as boardrooms, meeting rooms and senior management offices.
