Advanced Surveillance Course (Two Week)

Titan deliver a two-week advanced surveillance course where learners work towards an RQF Level 4 (Advanced) in Covert Surveillance Operations certificated by Skills For Justice (SFJ). This course is aimed at developing learners into competent team leaders. It’s a demanding course with an extremely steep learning curve over the two weeks and shouldn’t be taken on lightly. With pre reads and evidencing your learning by completing a workbook, days can be as long as 14 hours. Prior to the course learners will be given access to Titan’s Online Surveillance Course which covers 17 modules of surveillance theory which attributes 15 hours towards your total qualification time (TQT).

Please note:
If students wish to gain the RQF Level 4 qualification then a £100 admin fee is required on completion of the course which will be payable to the Institute of Professional Investigators (IPI).

Titan developed its training arm in 2017 to ensure that operational demand was met. Titan Graduates are automatically enrolled onto Titan’s “GROW” Student Aftercare Programme where they are allocated a qualified mentor, added to the Titan resourcing group and further developed operationally whilst earning. Most training providers have little if any involvement with you following the completion of their courses. Titan is the preferred surveillance training provider for the Institute of Professional Investigators (IPI) and our surveillance courses are approved, endorsed and are available to purchase and enrol onto via the Association of British Investigators’ website.
All of our successful graduates are eligible for immediate full membership to the IPI. (NB: annual membership fees are payable to the IPI).

All of the above is covered on our five-day intermediate course however, five days doesn’t allow us to meet the total qualification time set by the awarding body SFJ. If a learner has previously attended an SFJ Basic or Intermediate course, this then falls under ‘recognised prior learning’ and the learner will be eligible to attend a shorter course to gain the advanced qualification.

Please Note:
There is no requirement for learners to have completed a basic or intermediate course prior to attending the advanced course.

Course Instructors

Simon Henson – Senior Instructor

Simon brings a wealth of operational and training experience to Titan’s surveillance courses. He began his 17 years Police service in 1997 where he quickly diversified into the covert world, operating as a surveillance operative/investigator.

As a Detective Sergeant, he managed surveillance operations Nationally combatting Serious Organised Crime (SOC) before moving into Counter-Terrorism. Simon spent many years engaged in combatting terrorist attack planning both in the UK and abroad working in the following roles;

Having overseen the development and training of probationary CTIU Surveillance Operators, Simon is perfectly placed in being selected to co-author and deliver Titan’s Training Courses. Since leaving the Police, Simon has been working worldwide within the top tier of the commercial surveillance sector.

Brian has 30 years’ experience in Law Enforcement as a Detective Sergeant and Senior Manager. The majority of his service was focussed on investigating organised criminality. He specialised in investigations incorporating conventional, technical and rural surveillance working in Force Major Crime Units, Regional Crime Squad, National Crime Squad and a Government Agency. Since retiring in 2014, Brian established his own successful investigation business focussing on surveillance and workplace investigations. Brian is also the Deputy Principal at the Institute of Professional Investigators. Brian holds a training qualification and delivers training in a variety of covert investigative tactics, professional investigators course and Safeguarding.

Much of Guy’s thirty-year police career was dedicated to specialist and covert operations including surveillance and particularly human source management and control at local, regional, national and international levels in the national security and domestic extremism environment within Special Branch and the counter-terrorism intelligence network. On retirement from the police service, Guy retrained as an instructor and SIA Licenced Door Supervisor and Close Protection Operative and worked with UHNW clients in the Caribbean, Monaco, mainland Europe and the UK.
More recently Guy has worked freelance as a close protection operative, surveillance operative and investigator in the commercial sector and has built a client base for OSINT research and analysis and operational briefing for high profile events and UHNW clients.

A former Special Forces operator and surveillance instructor who served for 24 years and who has 8 years working within the top tier of the commercial surveillance industry both Nationally and Internationally.

Why choose the Advanced NVQ Level 4 Rather than the Intermediate?

The main reason is that you receive double the tuition at a ratio of 1 instructor to 2 students however, it is almost double the cost. The advanced course will help with your confidence and ability however, the Intermediate RQF Level 4 won’t put you at a disadvantage. We have had some great students through the intermediate course who are complete success stories when combining the intermediate qualification with Titan’s ”GROW” student aftercare programme. Some providers offer an 8-week course and allegedly receive expressions of interest. Such courses will realistically cost £8000 and eight weeks of missed revenue generation whilst training. This in our opinion is only suitable for the Government and corporate sector where the budget is much larger. These courses are not commercially viable, hence why Titan don’t provide such courses as there is no demand.

Due to Titan Investigations being an operational company, our courses are subsidised and are therefore non-profit making, meaning that we are investing in the learner. We will offer successful Titan graduates opportunities through the “GROW” Student Aftercare Programme and invest in their development.
