Lie Detector Test or Polygraph Testing can be undertaken using Titan Private Investigation’s trained professionals at our Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Sheffield and London offices. Can anyone buy the equipment and pose as professional Polygraph examiner?
It’s possible, but not at Titan. Our Polygraph examiners are professionally trained, have years of operational experience, registered members of both the American Polygraph Association (APA) and the British Polygraph Association (BPA) which is frequently utilised by law enforcement agencies such as the Police for specific offence types.
What is a Polygraph or Lie Detector Test and how does it work?
A polygraph test is commonly referred to as a lie detector test. A polygraph is a machine in which the multiple (“poly”) signals from the sensors are recorded (“graph”). Studies have evidenced that deceptive answers will produce physiological responses that can be differentiated from those associated with non-deceptive answers. The polygraph is one of several devices used for lie detection as an interrogation tool with criminal suspects or candidates for sensitive public or private sector employment.
The Polygraph measures and records several physiological indices such as pulse, blood pressure, respiration and skin conductivity while the subject is asked a series of control questions and specific questions. The examiner will converse with you and jointly devise 3 questions specific to your case prior to the test taking place.
The subject of the Lie Detector Test or Polygraph Test will be attached to the Polygraph via;
- A cuff around their arm, similar to the cuffs used to monitor blood pressure.
- 2 monitors across the chest and abdominal region over clothing.
- 2 electromagnetic finger monitors.
- A cushion that is sat on to monitor movement.
There will be a number of control questions asked at the commencement of the test. These will be similar to;
- Is your name Paul?
- Are you 41 years old?
- Were you born in 1972?
- Is today Thursday?
- Do you live in Derby?
- Do you have a mortgage with HSBC?
- Are you sat down?
- Are the lights on?
The control and designated questions will then be asked during test conditions 3 times and the process is recorded on a video camera to ensure that the test is completed correctly.
The results are given the evening of the test after the examination in a formal report.
What is the success rate of a Polygraph or Lie Detector Test?
Results vary depending on where you decide to research, however, the official statistics are 96-98%.
Can you fool a Polygraph or Lie Detector Test?
I’m sure a professional Polygraph examiner would stand a good chance, however, in our experience, it’s not possible. If an examinee tries to fool the test it will result in an inconclusive result or have no effect and the truth will be uncovered.
How much is a Lie Detector or Polygraph Test in the UK?
Polygraph tests range from £595 to £895 per test currently in the UK.
Is there an age limit for a Polygraph or Lie Detector Test?
In short, No. However, if the individual is a minor, under the age of 17 then an appropriate adult will need to be present throughout the test.
