Is my car being tracked by GPS Tracking Device?
Is my car being tracked by GPS? Could there be a GPS Vehicle Tracker deployed? How can I debug my vehicle? Is there a bugging device on my vehicle?
These are questions we’re being asked more and more commonly here at Titan Private Investigation. The reason for this may be due to the advances in technology, their fairly low cost to purchase, but more likely due to the changes in society, namely the increased use of social media.
How are GPS Tracking Devices found?
Titan is experienced in both deploying and retrieving GPS Tracking Devices and therefore know the best locations to place them on most models of vehicles to ensure;
A strong enough signal that the vehicle can emit its GPS location,
The most covert place to ensure that it’s not compromised or located.
We will arrange for one of our technical operatives to meet you at a location of your choice and will perform a ‘sweep’ of your vehicle to locate any GPS Vehicle Trackers. Once we have located it we will remove and neutralise the device so that it will no longer emit a GPS location.
Car being tracked by GPS, how long will the process take?
Dependant on the size of the vehicle, this can take up to 30 minutes.
Who & why might someone track my vehicle?
There are many reasons why someone may place a GPS vehicle tracker on a vehicle you have access to, below are just a few of the people who may;
- An employer
- A spouse or family member
- A competitor
- Law enforcement agencies, such as the Police
- An individual you may have wronged
The reasons why any of the above may have the incentive to place a GPS vehicle tracker on a vehicle you have access to is an even broader question and only you will be able to answer that question.
My car being tracked, why would my spouse place a GPS Vehicle Tracker on my vehicle?
They may suspect that you are a cheating partner. The use of social media websites is a common part of life in the United Kingdom. At the beginning of 2017, the total number of social media users in the UK had reached over 39 million users, with estimates going up to 42 million users.
According to a survey by UK Divorce Online, Facebook was implicated in a third of all divorce filings in 2017 and over 80% of lawyers have witnessed a rise in the number of divorces linked to social networking. A study published in 2017 in the journal, Computers in Human Behaviour revealed that the use of social networking sites, “Is negatively correlated with marriage quality and happiness, and positively correlated with experiencing a troubled relationship and thinking about divorce.”
This is bound to reflect on society and cause distrust and may be the reason for the increase in requests for GPS Vehicle Trackers that we have experienced. Whether that be from individuals wanting to know if they are subject to a vehicle GPS tracking device being deployed or require one to be deployed.
Is GPS Vehicle Tracking legal?
In short Yes. There are no laws stopping anyone from placing a GPS vehicle tracker on another vehicle, however there are exceptions to this which will be covered in a moment. One common misconception we hear a lot is that individuals believe that deploying a GPS vehicle tracker is a breach of an individual’s human rights or is subject to the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act. These pieces of legislation and others only apply to government bodies, not individuals or corporate clients. We mentioned there are exceptions, where deploying a GPS vehicle tracker isn’t legal or ethical and some of these are listed below;
- When there is a criminal intent, such as to cause an individual harm or harassment.
- When a trespass occurs deploying or retrieving the GPS vehicle tracker.
- When an employer hasn’t made employees aware that vehicles are monitored by GPS vehicle trackers.
- To avoid detection or to obstruct law enforcement agencies.
