Can I beat a lie detector test?
Titan uses EyeDetect by Converus, which has superseded the Polygraph test for truth validation. The main reasons that EyeDetect is more popular than the traditional Polygraph test is;
- It only takes 30 minutes opposed to one and a half hours,
- It’s less intrusive due to the eyes being monitored rather than being wired up to a machine that measures seven sensory areas,
- It’s cheaper,
- It’s as accurate,
- Results are instant.
The subject will be required to sit in front of a monitor. The monitor has tiny cameras at the bottom of it which aren’t noticeable. These cameras measure the size of the subject’s pupils which will change in size ever so slightly when the subject tells the truth and when they lie. The test allows for three questions to be inputted into it. An example of three questions for a matrimonial lie detector test may be;
- Have you had sexual contact with anyone other than your wife since you have been married?
- Have you had sexual intercourse with anyone other than your wife since you have been married?
- Did you kiss a work colleague at the office party in December?
The software then creates a number of statements which the subject will answer true or false to using a computer mouse.
The subject will also be asked to lie to certain statements. Such as;
“In your entire life I have never always told the truth.”
The answer to this is clearly false, however it is asking you to lie so the subject would click true. This allows the software to monitor your lie response.
The duration of the test is approximately 30 minutes. On completion of the test, the results are provided instantly, and this will be followed with a concise report breaking the results down.
Is it possible to pass a lie detector test if you’re lying?
In our opinion as lie detector examiners the answer is NO. We are familiar with the equipment and relaxed when being subjected to a lie detector test. We have tried to beat the test on a regular basis by lying and the software has always been correct. We’ve also never had a false failure where we’ve told the truth and the software has stated that we’ve lied. So, we have 100% faith in EyeDetect lie detection and don’t believe it is possible to beat it by lying. We’d certainly welcome anyone to try and beat it in a controlled environment.
It amazes us just how many subjects sit the lie detector test knowing that they are lying. In November we performed ten lie detector tests and 80% were lying and failed the test. That’s represents eight out of ten people who sat the test expecting to be able to beat it!
